DESCRIPTION OF CLASSES

PARENT AND TOT:  Designed for children 3-5 years old that have had no formal instruction.  Basic skating skills will be taught to the children while allowing the parents to participate on the ice with them. NOT ON SCHEDULE AT THIS TIME

TOT A:  For skaters who have never been on ice skates before or for those who have not had formal lessons.  Children will be taught the proper way to fall and get up, marching across the ice, forward dips, basic forward skating, backward wiggles and swizzles, stopping and spinning.  Children should wear gloves and warm clothing.           

TOT B For skaters who have completed the Tot A class or have comparable skating skills.  Controlled scooter pushes, forward crossovers in both directions, backward skating, tap toe jumps and one-foot snowplow stops are emphasized.

TOT C For skaters who have completed the Tot B class or have comparable skating skills.  Backward crossovers in both directions, spins, bunny hops, lunges, 3 turns and T- stops are emphasized.

PRE-ALPHA: For skaters who have never been on the ice before or for those who have had no formal lessons.  Students will learn basic forward and backward skating, forward and backward swizzles, backward wiggles, one-foot glides, snowplow stops and a few basic tricks.

ALPHA: For students who have passed the Pre Alpha class or have comparable skating skills. Controlled forward stroking, forward crossovers in both directions without using toe picks and one-foot snowplow stops are emphasized.

BETA: For students who have passed the Alpha class, or have the equivalent skating ability. Backward stroking, backward crossovers in both directions and left and right T-stops. 

GAMMA: For students who have passed the Beta class or have the equivalent skating ability.  Change directions while skating using right and left outside 3-turns and Mohawk combinations. Hockey stops will also be emphasized. 

DELTA: For students who have passed the Gamma class or have the equivalent skating ability Right/left /inside 3-turns, forward outside/inside edges on an axis, shoot-the-duck, lunge and bunny hop. 

FREESTYLE 1-8 There are 10 freestyle levels in the Ice Skating Institute program with varying degrees of difficulty at each level.  Various jumps, spins, footwork and artistic maneuvers are taught in these classes 

 POWER SKATING:  Students will work on speed, stamina, endurance & technique for freestyle and hockey.

SYNCHRONIZED WORKSHOP:  For all skaters who have passed Alpha level or above.  Skate with friends and learn basic precision team unison and formations in preparation to join our youth or teen competitive and performance teams.  NOT ON SCHEDULE AT THIS TIME
