Local skaters win Ice Skating Institute World Recreational Team Championships!

Team Skatetown brings home more than 400 medals

Roseville, California – August 7, 2009.  The Ice Skating Institute (ISI) is an international recreational ice skating organization for skaters of all ages and abilities.  Every summer, the ISI sponsors the World Recreational Team Championships, an event that draws participants from across the globe, allowing skaters to compete both individually and as a team representing their facility.  The Sharks Ice Arena in San Jose hosted this event July 27-August 1, 2009.

150 skaters ranging from ages 2 to 69 from the greater Sacramento area joined together to form ‘Team Skatetown.’  Each time a skater competes, they earn points for the team based on their placement.  Out of 64 teams from as far away as Manila and China, Team Skatetown earned over 400 medals and 1717.5 points to clinch the World title!  This point tally marks largest number of points won by an ISI team at a Worlds Championship.

Under the direction of an outstanding coaching staff, Team Skatetown participants competed in a variety of technical, artistic, spotlight, ensemble and synchronized skating events.  In addition, 9 skaters were honored by being asked to skate in the annual ISIA Education Foundation Benefit show last week along with 2008 US National Champion and Olympic contender Mirai Nagasu.  One of the benefit show skaters from Team Skatetown was Coach Ali Kaye Zimmer, a Freestyle 10 skater (the highest ISI level).

To celebrate their victory, the Skatetown team members will be performing in a Worlds Victory Ice show on Saturday, August 22nd
